56th Explorer/Venturer Weekend 17-19 APR 2009

56th  EXPLORER/VENTURER WEEKEND

APRIL 17-19, 2009

CAMP ROCK ENON, GORE, VA

DIRECTOR:  CHRIS SPAID – 540-662-2551 OR EMAIL –cspaid@bsamail.org

 

DIRECTIONS:  16 miles west of Winchester, VA on Route 50 West.  Take left at Gore, VA (look for BSA Camp road sign).  Take left on Route 704 (look for Camp Rock Enon sign).  Go 4 miles and make left on Route 693 (look for Camp Rock Enon sign) – road will take you to camp. 

 

ACTIVITIES:  Campwide Events, Rappelling/Rock Climbing, Marksmanship/Archery, Geo Caching, Volleyball Tournament and Lipsync (Talent) Contest. 

 

COST:  Tent Camping (fee paid by April 10th) - $30.00; after April 10th  - $35.00.  Cabin Camping (fee paid by April 10th) - $35.00; after April 10th  - $40.00.  Fee is per person. 

 

SLEEPING FACILITIES ARE VERY RUSTIC:  Participants must provide own sleeping bag, personal gear, warm clothes (appropriate clothing in case of rain) and flash lights.  Remember to bring your mattress pad if you have one, we do not provide mattresses.

 

UNIT ACCIDENT INSURANCE:  Each unit is required to submit evidence of carrying Health and Accident Insurance.

 

AWARDS:  Certificates and patch for each participant.  1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons for Rock Climbing/Rappelling, Geo Caching, Archery, and Marksmanship; Plaques for Lipsync (Talent) Contest, Volleyball, and Campwide Events; 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies over all and Most Spirited Award (based on spirit) sportsmanship, points awarded throughout events.

 

WE STRESS PARTICIPATION:  Advisors are encouraged to participate.  Advisors scores will be included in marksmanship.

 

SPECIAL NOTICE:  Alcoholic beverages and non-prescription illegal drugs are prohibited at Camp Rock Enon.  Individuals found to be possessing, consuming or under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be IMMEDIATELY SEPARATED FROM CAMP.  All firearms and sheath knives are prohibited in camp, anyone found with any of the above will be IMMEDIATELY SEPARATED FROM CAMP.

 

ALL COED  UNITS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A MALE AND FEMALE ADVISOR DURING THE WEEKEND.

GENERAL RULES

Adult leaders with Post/Crew at all times.

Vehicles parked in parking lot only, no exceptions.

Please keep campsite and or cabin clean, pick up trash.

Water may or may not be provided.  Sometimes due to unforeseen problems the water

can go off with no warning.

Participants need Leaders permission to leave campsite and only in pairs.

Do not cut live trees, plenty of down wood in camp.

No fireworks, sling shots, long knives, or other items considered dangerous.

Report all accidents to Director, Advisor and Medical Officer

Review all items, especially score sheet

Dress appropriately for the weather.

Campsites will be assigned at check in.

Roster provided at check in.

Any allergies to food should be made known to cooks so proper preparation can be made.

Units must observe BSA’s no smoking policy.
